Feilding Cycline Club.

A handicap road race, under the auspices of the Feilding Cycling Club, took place yesterday afternoon, the distance being from the Square to Ley's Line and back, about 4 miles, this being the same course over which a race was run in December last. The prize was a silver medal presented by Mr Hadfield, of Palmerston North, on behalf of the Onslow Cycle Company, of Auckland, and a sweepstake. A great deal of interest was taken in the event, and the seven riders who faced the starter were each considered to have a fair show for first honours. As anticipated, the finish was a close one, and credit is due to Mr E. H. Ricketts, who acted as handicappcr. The starters were J. Watson 2min 45secs., F. W. Treseder 2min., F» Mackenzie lmin 30sec, A. L. Parr lrnin 30sec, E. Feck 30sec, A. H. Way 30secs., J. Mingins scr. Amidst considerable excitement — there being a large crowd of spectators at the winning post — the finish resulted as follows : — Parr 1, Mingins 2, Feck 3, there being only about 35 yards between these three riders, while the others were all fairly well up. Al though the road was in good order the wheelmen had a gale of wind to ride against as far as the half distance, and no doubt, but for this, the time would have been much faster, however, under the circumstances Parr's time viz., 14min 48sec, was by no means slow, while Mingins, who covered the distance in 12min 2 2-ssec, rode a great race. Two mishaps occurred whSe Hearing home, but luckily neither had a serious result. Way bore down on a dog which endeavoured to cross him, and all came to earth, the rider getting a good shaking, and the machine being considerably damaged. Watson collided with one of the spectators, and he also came down Messrs E. Mills and E. H. Ricketts acted as judges, Mr G. W. Fowles starter and timekeeper, and Mr A. W. Enowles limit marker. Spectators should give the riders a little more consideration at the finish, and not block the road, as it is impossible for a man when riding at a high speed, to pull up in a few feet. This was the cause of the mishap yesterday, and it is now doubtful if the Club will be allowed to hold more of these interesting races on the same course.
