Palmerston Ram Fair.

The annual Bam Fair commenced on the Show Ground yesterday. The entries were more numerous than in anj T previous year. In 1893 the number was 1024; in 1894, 1142; and this year 1273. This year some very fine animals were offered. The principal increase was in the number of Romneys offered, the comparative figures with last year being —1894, 391 ; 1895, 975. Lincolns showed a decrease in number, the figures for 1894 being 723, and for 1895 542. Messrs Elgar, Pitzherbert, and J. Reid offered Border Leicesters. Experts pronounced them very fine animals. Yesterday only Lincolns and Border Leicestsrs were on the ground. The quality of the animals compared very favorably with those offered last year. The principal exhibitors were Mrs Watt, W. Morrison, R. Liuton, a. B. Mckenzie, T. Bryce, A. S. Baker, W. Rathbone, F. Rayner, P. Stewart, R. Wilson, 0. Wilson, W* Chapman, J. E. Nathan, R. B. Pearce, R. O. E. Carey, T. Tanner, W Wilson, D. Grant, R. Bremer, and J. Peale. The attendance was fairly good, and though the demand was not so large as was expected, competition for first-class animals was keen. Mr Henry and F. L. Jackson, for Messrs Abraham and Williams, were the auctioneers, and made the most of the time placed at their disposal. The reserves in almost all cases were higher than the purchasers cared to bid, ani a very large number were passed in.
