Seizure of a " Still."

(Per Press Association.) Auckland, January 30. Some time ago the Collector of Customs received information that a man, apparently a foreigner, had been offering to various people rum at such a low figure that there was reason to suspect import duty had not been paid on the same. The collector, calling in the aid of a detective, made an investigation with the result that it was decided to lay an information against the occupant of a shop in the city. The collector seized a three-gallon still complete, also an additional apparatus for distilling, and about twelve gallons of material, which was probably being offered for sale as rum. Also a quantity of locally made sarsaparilla, variety of flavoring essences, etc. Two informations have been laid, but the police were unable to serve warrants. Consequently a fresh information will be laid. _^__________
