The Colonial Bank.
An attempt has been made by Mr Hutchison, M.H,R , in his speech to condemn the Government because they deposited £150,0(0 in the Colonial Bank Now, a art from the fact that that institution is purely a colonial one, and for that reason well worthy of support, the Bank has in the past rendered the colony signal service, therefore it i 6 ouly a just and fitting recognition of that servic ■ thatit should receive a share of the public account of iha colony. It will be remembered that during the last Atkinson regime that the Colonial Bank came to the rescue of the colony's credit with a half million atorling to pay the Butish bondholders' interest then cominer due anil which the New Zealand Government's bankers were not able to provide for. Surely such an act as that entitles the Colonial Bank to some consideration, but -Mr Hutchison, who cvi dcntly docs not possess the ordinary ffelings of gratitude judging by the way lie endeavors to hit at the people who brought him into political life, does not think so. — Standard.
