The Post states a movement is on foot amongst the Opposition members of the House to appoint a delegate to go round the country and reply to Ministerial speeches, and a fund is being raised for this purpose. Auckland, January 28. i Yesterday being the birthday of the ' Emperor of Germany the occasion was 1 duly observed in a festive manner on board the German warship Bussard in the Calliope dock. The vessel was decorated with bunting and was visited by a large number of Aucklanders. The inquest on the man named Edward Thompson shows he had received fatal injuries by a fall from his horse. Invebcabgill, January 28, Mr J. A, McDonald, aged 24 was shot dead this evening near Lime Hills while out rabbit shooting. He was a son of Mr McDonald formerly of Milton, but now living near Oamaru. Chbistchurch, January 28 Mr W. W Tanner addressed his constituents to-night, and was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence.
