Tue Argus on the Land and Income Tax.

(Per Press Association.) Melbourne, January 23. The Argus says the proposed Income Tax in its present form aims a heavy blow at the financial interests of Victoria. Those interests, especially at the present time, are of vital importance. Tho Bill provides the taxation of what is euphemistically styled foreign companies — that is British and Anglo Aus tralian institutions— which helped to establish the colonies by furnishing them with a plentiful supply of capital at low rates of interest. The imposition is as foolish as it is monstrous, because there will be a withdrawal of capital and re moval of companies' offices from Melbourne to Sydney, provided that New South Wales has the good sense to drop its preposterous Land and Income Tax Bill.
