WELLINGTON RACES.

For the first day of the Wellington Racing Club's Spring Meeting lovely weather prevailed, and between 4000 and 5000 people were present, including Lord and Lady Glasgow. Tbe amount put through the machine was £10,481, being i-1461 more than the first day last year. Following are tbe results: — Anniversary Handicap — Spendthrift 1, Tuhitarata 2, Dreamland 3. Time, lmin 45£ se c; dividend, £3 6s. Nursery Handicap—Spruce 1, Black and Red 2, St John 3. Time, lmin 19£ se c; dividend i' 6 10s. Wellington Cup — Mahaki 1, Lady Zetland 2, North Atlantic 3. Arius led for half the journey, when Mahaki and Lady Zetland went to the front. Coming down the straight North Atlantic made an effort, but Mahaki held his own and won by half a length from Lady Zetland, North Atlantic the same distance away third. Time, 2min 39sec; dividend, i' 4 4s. Hurdle Handicap—Clarence 1, Revolt 2, Sedition 3. Time, 3min 56sec; dividend, i' 3 9s. Welter Handicap — Musket 1, Von Vempsky 2, Tuhitarata 3. Senator and Review were scratched. Won under the whip by half a length. Dividend, £3 11s. In the Hack Handicap, Penrosc defeated niue others. Dividend, .£8 ss. Disposal Stakes—Parae 1, Poinsettia 2, Delusion 3. Dividend, £4 10s. Telegraph Handicap — Saracen I, King's Bowman I, Britomartc 3. Time, lmin 16 3-sth sec. Dividends, Saraceu XI 19s, King's Bowman £2 3s. The owners agreed to divide.
