i SCENE AT THE NEW PRESIi DENT'S ELECTION. [ [Per Press Association.] ; Paris, January 18. At the finish of the election for the Presidency the Socialists shook their fists in the faces of ther opponents, and 1 owing to the uproar it was impossible 1 to hear the speeches. A section of the Party clamoured 1 " Down with the Presidency." The Socialists loudly resented the pro--1 hibition of M. Richard from voting. M. Faure is the first Protestant elected ! at the head of the state. [ M. Dupuy, the Premier, has resigned. ' After his election M. Faure said he ! would cease to belong to any Party, and become an arbiter between Parties withl out distinction. ; Prince Victor Napoleon is issuing a s manifesto. M. Rochefort thinks the chances are . in favor of M. Waldeck Rousseau's ; election. : The Vienna and Berlin press coni demns M. Perier's cowardice in deserti ing his post. [ Le Temps considers the Republic has I not been exposed to greater danger since , the Boulanger episode.
