SHEEP WORRYING.
. -*r In order to check, if not to stop alto gether the loss entailed on sheep own ers by dogs worrying and destroying a considerable percentage of their flocks, we would suggest that the local bodies comprised in the counties of Manawatu, Oroua, Kiwitea and Pohangina, combine and appoint one man only to the position of Regis trar of Dogs. Such an appointment would be a very profitable one to an active man who did his duty impartially, without fearor favor, but it would also be a benefit to those most interested. He would be enabled to de vote his whole time and attention to his business so that when stray or uiasterless dogs were reported to him, he would be in a position to help those whose property was jeopardised independently because his appointment would enable him to live comfortably without engaging in any other occu pation. Of course there may be a good deal to say on tho other side, especially as no local body cares to give up a right of local patronage, but still the notion haa its good points which must be specially obvious to sheep owners. _^______
