Wool Sales.

o The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report of the wool sales yesterday as follows: —We offered 896 bales of the usual description, and are pleased to report a slight improvement in tone and in values. For good, sound, weli-grown clips there was a decidedly keen competition, and an advance, and this was to a certain extent noticeable in all lots. On the average we consider values have improved fully Jd per lb, and we are glad to say that a large proportion of the lots passed in at the last sale and re-offered have been sold at fully this advantage. We would like to draw the attention of growers to the desirability of earlier shearing where the wool is likely to be effected by utawai. Many lots were considerably effected by the presence in large proportions of this seed. Leary and Co. (Limited) report havng held tlieir second wool sale of the season yesterday, when they offered a small catalogue of 101 bales, of which 62 were sold at prices which in some instances showed a slight improvement on those current at the previous auction. The better class of wools met with more competion, and late values were well maintained.

(Per Press Association). London, January 18. At the wool sales an excellent catalogue was submitted, and there was the keenest competition, especially for the best lots, which were secured by Americans. The French buyers are increasing their purchases.
