There will be a sitting of the S.M. Court in Feilding on Thursday, the 24th instant. Iv Melbourne a woman gets 2^d for making a shirt, and a Chinaman gets 5d for washing it. Mr C. H. Marcus, who has for many years held the position of station master at Wanganui, has been promoted to the charge of the Oamaru station. The members of the Manchester Rifles arc reminded of the capitation parade this evening in the Assembly Rooms. At a competition of the Marton Rifle Club yesterday attemoon, Mr Wm. Johnston headed the list with 66 out of a possible 70. The ranges were 200 and 500 yards. From the beginning of February the Clerk to the Court, Mr F. M. Deighton, will visit Feilding on Tuesdays and Fridays instead of Mondays and Thursdays. A London cablegram states that the Tongariro left Plymouth on Saturday last for Wellington and Lyttelton with 2650 tons of cargo and 67 passengers. Mr Gray, Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department, will accompany the Postmaster-General to the Postal Conference at Hobart. Mr T. Bull, of Campbelltown, advertises for sale a section of land containin» about four acres with five-roomed cottage. The section is near the centre of Campbelltown. Mr E. The committee appointed to work up the preliminary arrangements in connection with the formation of a dairy factory in Apiti met last night, when the plans, etc., received from Mr Sawers were laid before the meeting. A subcommittee consisting of Messrs Vicary, Clapham and Nix was appointed to go into them and report to a meeting to be held on Wednesday next. It wa3 resolved to issue prospectuses at once, and that Messrs Goodbehere and Richmond be solicitors to the Company. An interesting wedding took place in Palmerston yesterday afternoon, when Mr H. Mowlem and Miss Grace, both of Palmerston North, were united in the bonds of matrimony. The ceremony took place in the Wesleyan Church, the buildiug, which had been nicely decorated, being crowded with sightseers and friends. During the afternoon the pareuts of the bride entertained about two hundred friends from all parts of the district at afternoon tea. The list of wedding presents was an exceedingly loug one, the gifts being both of a handsome aud. useful nature. Mr T. M. Copeland has framed the following handicaps for the two bicyclins: events (one and five miles) to be decided at the Wanganm Caledonian Sports next Tuesday : — T Clarkson, scratch in both ; A A. Fantham, 25yds in the mile, and 60yds in the five mile; F. Wilson, 25yds and 60yds ; F. Hunt, 40jds and lOOjds ; J. B. Clarkson, 45yds and 185 yds; A Williscroft, 60yds and 150 yds ; .7. H Mingins, 90\ds and 290 yds ; C. E. Erenstrom. 100 yds and 290 ; T. Proffett, -.. L. Parr, and A. M. Howett, 100 yds and 300 vds ; A. H. Way, 160 and 305 ; and A. E. Feck, 165 and 320. Mrs D. Barrett advertises to-day that she is holding -J clearing sale of summer goods in her premises, Fergusson street, to make room for autumn and winter drapery and clothing. At the beginning of next month Mrs Barrett will oommence dressmaking on the premises, and as she has had twelve years' experience in one of the best dressmaking establishments in Wanganui the ladies here can depend on receiving satisfaction. To meet the requirements of a growing business, additions to the premises are about to be commenced in order that greater convenience may be afforded to customers, and at the same time for the better display of drapery, etc.
