Birmingham Sunday School Anniversary.
An almost perfect day greeted the annual Sunday School picnic which took place in Mr Palmer's paddock yesterday. The usual games were indulged in, both > old and young enjoying themselves im- 1 mensely'. The superintendent and teachers did all they could to entertain the children, the whole proceedings lasting < until the shades of evening gently enfolded mountain, wood and glen, happy hearts then wended their way homewards singing songs of joy, already looking forward to next year. In the evening a concert was held in the Town Hall. Mr Fergusson presided. In his speech he complimented the children on their good behaviour. The first item was a musical selection by Messrs W. Barlow (clarionet), F. Barlow (flute), F. Fauthorpe (cornet), Mrs Tompkins (piano). Song, Miss Buckman, " Who's that a calliu' so sweet " ; recitation, Mr Moss, "The Spanish Champion "; this was very fairly given. Mr Anyon complimented the scholars on the attendance, some having a long distance to come. The teachers also deserved a word of praise ; they have been faithful, each Sunday they have been at their post and always in time. Three teachers left during the year havremoved to other parts, other teachers have taken their places. The report showed— Receipts : Tickets sold ill 9s 6d, collected i."4 17s 6d, Sunday collections, £2 16s 5d ; Total, irlO 2s lid. Expenditure : — By cards 12s, hymn books 9h, prizes £2 13s 6d, picnic J£3 12s, advertising 4s, incidental expenses 10s, rent of hall 7s 6d, balauce transferred to library 11 14s lid ; Total, £10 2s lid. Library account : — Transferred school fund I'l 14s lid, children collected 8s 2d : Balance in hand, £2 3s Id. The musical portion was then continued. Song, Miss Richardson ; piano solo, Mr Barlow ; song, " The Lost Chord," Mr Hargreavcs ; dnet, Mrs Fowler and Miss Lowes, " Glory be to God;" solo (piano), Mr Barlow ; recitation, Miss Birch. The prizes, about thirty in number, were then given by the Revd. Mr Keall to the children, whose faces gave every sign of pleasure. A prize was given to Miss Birch, who lately taught in the school, and special prizes were given to Bertha Boggis and Greaue Bell for regular attendance. The Misses Moi'fat also got prizes, being late teachers in the school. The accompaniments were played by Mesdames Tompkins aud Howie, Miss Laing, and Mr Barlow. The proceedings closed with the DoKologv.
