Wairakei Notes.
A public meeting was held in Wairakei on Saturday last, for the purpose of applying for a Post office, and changing the name as there is already a Wairakei in the Auckland district. A large number were present. The chair was occupied by Mr J. W. Byrne who in a few words explained the purpose of the meeting, and asked for any new names suitable for the place. After a general discussiou and mauy amusing remarks about the names suggested it was decided on the motion of Mr Frost seconded by Mr Trenton, That the name of tlie township be " Ruabine/ 1 This was carried unanimously on being put by the chairman to the meeting. The proposed mail is to run twice a week from Rangiwahia and if granted will be a great boon to the inhabitants of Buahine and the State farm who at present labour under great difficulties in getting their mails. The want of a school is very keenly felt in tliis growing township as there is snch a large number of children growing up without any means of education.
