Midland Railway Company.
♦__ CLAIM OF £'1,500,000 UPON THE COLONY. (Per Press Association). Wellington, January 14. The Post states that; His Excellency the Governor demurred to being served personally with the Midland Railway Company's notice of arbitration. He contended that as Her Majesty's representative he could not be so served. He, however, exercised the power given under the contract to nominate a substitue to receive service, and L»; nominated the Hon. R. J. Seddon, Minister of Public Works, as his substitute. The notice of arbitration has, therefore, been personally served on Mr Seddou, tonether with a further notice warning Government not to alionate any of the land included in map Bl attached to the contract and over which the Company claims a lien. The claim for damages to be preferred by the Company against the Colony on the points on which arbitration is demanded, will, ifc is said, amount to about £'1,500,000.
