CARNARVON V. FEILDING.
A Cup match between the above Clubs was played ou the ground of the latter on Saturday, resulting in a win for Feilding by an innings and 09 runs. Feilding went first to the wickets, and succeeded in putting together 173 runs. Half of these were contributed by L. E. Rcade, who batted carefully, only giving one chance during his innings, and his score of 87 is the highest yet made on this ground. Grant (20), Broughton 0)2), Hill (14) aud G. Bartholomew (10) were the only others to reach double figures. The fielding of the Carnarvon men was very good, and in this particular they were before the local men, who, if they would win Cup honors this season, wiil have to pay attention to that portion of the game. Carnarvon's first innings closed for 58, Levett (12), Bishop (10) and Hathaway (16) alono getting into the doubles. The bowling of Grant in this innings proved too strong for thu visitors, and in their second innings, which finished for 4(3, the bowliuy of the Rev. Innes Jones proved equally difficult to play. The Englishmen were greatly disappointed with their batting on Saturday, which they put down partly to their inability to get any sleep on Friday night owing to the intense heat. The wicket, though not up to the highest standard, played well for double numbers, as the Australians showed when they went in for the second time. The bowling and fielding were splendid. The Australians say they never saw Callaway bowl better. Bruce played a dashing innings, the best seen on the ground since Lyons made 124 against New South Wales two years ago. He and Iredale hit 19 off Lockwood in one over. A match was played at Marton on Saturday between a Wai tuna and Halcombe combined and the Marton Club.
