Breach of the Factory Act.

(Per Press Association.) Dojjedin, January 10. At the Police Court Alfred Brookes was charged with a breach of the FactorvAct, in keeping one of the female hands at work after one o'clock on Saturday. The defence was that the girl was working for herself making a dress, and had stopped in the factory to get the benefit of Brooke's advice in making it. Mr Carew said he believed the defence was genuine, but it showed a weakness m the Act as it leffc the door open to an excuse when the facts might not be genuine. The case was diemi'seed.
