» The ordinary monthly meeting was held in the Council Chambers, Sanson, on Wednesday, 9th instant. Present — Crs Ransom (chairman), Taylor, Strang, Eobinson, Wilson, Masters, and Hammond. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed, correspondence was read and dealt with. Transfers were agreed to from Louisa Osborne to Dr Rockstrow, for section 166, Campbell town ; also, from M. Roach to W. A. Jenkins, for section 60, Mount Stewart. Renewals of slaughtering licenses were granted to Rutherford and Son, Feilding ; G. W. Blunden, Campbelltown ; and Walsh and Howan, Foxton. Several other butchers neglected to apply for renewals, and the Clerk pointed out that they were now killing without a license, and rendering themselves liable to penalties for so doing. The dog tax was fixed at 2s 6d for all dogs for the current year. Tenders to be called for collecting same, to be in by next meeting. In the meantime 450 badges are to be ordered from Mr Ross, Ounedin, and Mr Neill, of Sanson, will supply the collars. Tho Treasury wrote asking for a fuller description of the properties to be rated for the Oroua river protective works, also, for a plan of the special rating area. It was resolved to hold a special meeting on the 23rd January to deal with the matter, and, at the same time, it is proposed to strike a special rate over the County to provide interest and sinking fund on a loan to pay County's share of repairs and additions to the Awahuri bridge, Cr J. G. Wilson presented a petition from a number of ratepayers, praying that a road be opened through Mr Peter Stewart's property, from Mt Stewart to the Feilding road coming out at Mr Purkiss' gate, which it was alleged would shorten the distance to Feilding by 2^ miles. The Clerk was instructed to make enquiries and the Overseer to make an estimate as to the cost and report at next meeting. The tender of M. Doyle was accepted for 40 chains metalling on Mt. StewartHalcombe road at 19s 6d per chain. Tenders are to be called for 100 chains formation on Main Drain road, near Oroua bridge, also, for forming road through Saunders' property, and other work, at Motoa, also, for painting the Longburn bridge, and for metalling in township of Sanson. All rates unpaid on 31st January are to be sued for. The Clerk was instructed to take decisive steps where owners have gorse spreading on roads. Mr Bray will be asked to inspect the Carnarvon- Sanson tramway as soon as he can. Charitable aid rations were granted to Henry Amphlet, Awahuri, during the pleasure of the Council. The Clerk was instructed to apply to the Treasury for an additional 10 per cent an the loan of £175 in the Sandon riding. The Overseers' report on County and and district roads was read, showing the roads generally to be in a good state of repair. Accounts amounting to £870 12s 7d were passed for payment and the Council adjourned.
