Mr Gladstone and the Sultan.
(Per Press Association.) London, January 8. The Standard's correspondent at Constantinople reports that the Sultan ordered Rustem Pasha, Turkish Ambassador in London, to telegraph the text of Mr Gladstone's speech delivered to the Armenian delegates. He was simply furious at the tone of the ex Premier's remarks, which will increase the diplomatic difficulty tenfold, and probably be a barrier to the en* forcement of reforms. January 9. The Sultan has applied to Lord Kim. berley, Foreign Minister, to disavow Ml Gladstone's speech to the Armenian delegates, which has fairly infuriated tlift Turkish Government. Constantinople, January 9. The Turkish authorities allege that they have seized a quantity of seditious pamphlets and materials which the Ar. menians intended to use in an extensive scheme of arson. Paris, January 9. The Armenians resident in Paris welcorned with enthusiasm Mr Gladstone who is en route to Cannes.
