(PEB PBESB ASSOCIATION). Sydney, This Day. A fire in the Deptford mine destroyed all the machinery. The damage is estimated at £6000. Melbourne, This Day. It has been definitely decided to hold a Postal Conference here on February 12th, and a communication has been despatched to New Zealand suggesting that if the Postmaster-General of that colony is unable to be present some other member of the Cabinet should attend. A number of cases are revealed in ■which the " drawback " regulations have been infringed by making false declarations as to the character of foreign goods, and fines ranging from £25 downward have been inflicted. Adelaide. January 7 A contingent from here and Broken Hill to join the third contingent for NewAustralia should have left for Sydney on Saturday, but only two did so, the rest being expected to leave by the next steamer. They embark at Sydney for New Zealand, where they tranahip into another steamer for Monte Video.
