THE H ALF-HOLIDAY.
♦ — The Manawatu Times says " There is an almost general feeling among the business men of Palmerston North and their employes in favor of a Saturday half-holiday, instead of Wednesday as at present. It is believed that the Saturday would be better for all concerned." Our readers will remember that the Mayor of Feilding has called a meeting for Monday evening, in the Assembly Rooms, to discuss this question. We hope that, whatever day is chosen, it will be the same for both towns. Our reasons for expressing this hope are that if the halfholiday is on different days in Palmerston and Feilding, between which towns there is a large community of interests, the many friendly contests ! in athletic games between the young men of the two towns, which have ijiveii so much pleasure since the halfiioliday was instituted, will have to be abandoned altogether in the future, also, that needless inconvenience will be given to country settlers who are in the habit of visiting either town to make their purchases, and who have a right to be considered in the matter quite as much as the employers and the employed.
