The Traction Engine Fatality.

(Per Press Association). Christchurch, December 29. Daniel Murphy, who waa killed by the fraction engine accident in Weka Pass was about 20 years of age and came from : s Melbourne. He was a shearer. The en- -V gine is damaged to the extent of about £100. The immediate cause of it run* ning up the bank was the snapping of the ; chain of the steering gear. Had the fl chain broken on the opposite side to whioh fl it did the engine and its load would have fl plunged into the bed of the Weka Creek, fl nearly 150 feet below, and little short of a fl miracle could have saved any of them fl from death. ifl
