A deadlock occurred through tho Legislative Council amending the Approbation Bill by striking out an item. ' The Council afterwards re-inserted the vote, however, but claimed the right to alter money Bills, except when they rci latcd to taxation. It is feared that the miners' strike will take place in the Newcastlo district at the end of the year. Parliament has adjourned for the Christmas recess, and will resume on February 26th. Government statistican estimates the wheat yield at 7,817,000 bushels, or an averayo of 11-96 per acre. Steps arc being taken to establish Cresswell's claim, but it is singular that ho himself denies identity with Tichborne.
