Harmonic Society Concert
». The first concert Riven by the Feilding Harmonic Society was hold in the Assembly Booms laßt evening, admittance to which waa by invitation and there was a very large audience present* The first part ot the conoert consisted of H. Van Landeghem's pretty and rather difficult Cantata " Merlin." This was most successfully rendered, between 40 and 50 voices takiug part, under the able conductorship of Mr 3". Greenwood, who is to be congratulated on the effloienoy into which he has worked the Society. The audience testified their approval of the efforts of the individual soloists, and the company as a whole, by frequent and prolonged applause. The various parts were taken as follows :— Mr Treseder • Merlin,' Mr Bade ' Shepherd,' Rev. lunes Jones ' Merchant, 1 Miss L. Roe 'Lady,' Mrs Hill 'Mother,' solo, Mrs Macarthur, trio, Messrs Simpson, Johnson, and Bosher, quartette, Messrs Simp* son, Johnson, Bosher, and Eade. Miss Greenwood capably filled the position of piamate, and an orchestra consisting of Messrs S. Andrews (cornet), H. H. Bilderbeck (bass), and F. G. "Woollanis (flute), rendered valuable assistance. Tho second part consisted of instrumental and vocal items as follows : — Piano solo, Miss Greenwood ; glee, ' Hail smiling morn,' Society; song, 'True till the last,' Mr Mathoson ; song, ' Waiting,' Miss Giesen ; glee, ' Sweet and low,' Society ; duet, 1 Life's dream is o'er, farewell,' Misses L. and A. Roe; song, ' Neapolitaine,' Mr Eade ; glee, ' Here in the cool grot,' Society ; song, ♦ Margarita,' Miss Diamond; song, 'Dear Heart,' Mrs Macarthur ; glee, ' Ob, who will with me o'er the downs," Society. Each of the above item 8 were well given and ; reoeived. with marks of appreciation and the concert altogether waa a most successful and enjoyable W 6 -^ m^ mmm mmm
