MAYORAL INSTALLATIONS. (PEH PEBB9 ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, December 19. Sailed— Poherua for Westport ; Te Anau for Sydney ; Rotokino for Australian colonies via Newcastle. The City Schools Committee, after a good deal of discussion decided to ask Mrs Thomas, wife of Professor Thomas, to allow herself to be nominated for the Board of Education. James Macalister has been committed for trial at Pukekohe on a charge of forgery. At the inquest en the body of John W. Smith, a verdict of pulmonary consump tion. A further examination of his bank book showed respecting the supposed credit balance of £231 in the National Provincial Bank of England, that the money bad been withdrawn from the Bank. Mr J. J, Holland was installed Mayor for a second term to-day. The Education Board has, on the motion of the Rev. J. Bate?, decided to call the attention of the department to the large number of over age pupils in the schools in this district The Women's Political Reform League has passed a resolution recommending that both Boxes should be placed on an equal footing with regard to the right of divorce. A resolution has also been car* ried supporting the present Government. Mrs Thomas, wife of Professor Thomas, is to be asked by the City Schools Committee to become a candidate for the Board of Education. CiIBISTCHURCH, DeC. 19. Mr W. H. Cooper was installed as Mayor of Christchurch today. Dunedin. December 19. The ealarj of the Mayor has been fixed at L4OO. The City Council tonight decided to invite competitive schemes for drainage, giving L3OO for the best, L2OO for the second, and LIOO for the third Palmehston N., This Day. Mr W. Park was installed as Mayor yesterday.
