Birmingham Notes.
» — [From Our Own Correspondent.] Tho Kiwitea County Council did a sensible aud just thing iv dispensing with the ranger at present. Your readers may not bo acquainted with this matter. The ranger sees a horse in a byc-strcot, be straightway brings tho horse to the owner, and demands nine shillings. If he refuses to pay, the horse is takcu to Cheltenham, nine miles away. A more absurd and unjust thing I never heard of. What the people complain of is, there is a pound reserve close to the township, but no pound. If tho Council erect a pound and then appoint a ranger, no one will complain, This matter has beeu vory severe on somo of our people. To pay 2s is one thing, and 9s another. I see tho School Committoo say they intend enforcing tho compulsory clauses of tho Act after the holidays. I trust thoy will have enough grit in them to do it. It has been a standing disgrace to this town that children of tender years should be seen at all times in our streets, instead of at school. [Remainder of notes will appear iv to-morrow's issue ]
