[From Our Own Correspondent.] Nominations for the Apiti Sports close to-morrow. The bush on the cemetery site is now felled, and the trustees intend to further improve tho ground as soon as possible. The Hope of Apiti Lodge continues to prosper, several new members having recently joined to assist in the cause of temperance. A very successful coffee supper wss recently held, all being unanimous in their praise of the enjoyable eveniug spent. Mr A. Cartwright, the energetic and courteous secretary of our sports committee, haa already reoeiyed several nominations from Palmerston North, Feilding, Mar ton, and other places outside the district. The committee are working hard to make the inaugural gathering a big success, and as everything in connection with the sports is going on under the most favorable auspices, we can joyously look forward to the event with pleasurable anticipation. It is intended to wind up the day's festivities with an attractive concert and dance, several leading vocalists from Feilding and Birmingham having kindly given their valuable services for the occasion. Mr Stevens, the well-known Birmingham baritone vocalist, has signified his intention of presenting a fashion-ably-made pair of trousers to the gentleman who sings tho best sentimental song. It is expected there will be keen competition amongst "our local hummers " to secure those up-to-date tailormade pants. Who knows but what there may not be some vocalistic genius with the voice of a Santley hidden away iv the forest. Auyhow, that " pair o' breoks" ought to entice the warbling bush-whacker from his lonely camp. Mr Eagar, the popular proprietor of the hotel, intends shortly after the New Year to add six bed -rooms to his already | cotumqdiou.s hostelry. I'he erection of a spacious billiard -room is another imprqvemont contemplated by Mr Eagar, so it is quite possible that at no distant dato the enthusiastic lover of " the cue and ivory " pastime will not require to go out of tho township to gratify his fancy. Mr Babbaqe and Mr Spurway are having residences erected on their respective places, apd Jtyr QJdbam. is about 'to, erect' a haqdsqme residence on his property in tho near future.
