Apiti Notes.
Thcr* is every prosptcto f n co-operative dairy company being successfully started in the Feilding Small Farm Block, more familiarly known as Apiti. The initiative has already been taken, and a committee consisting of Messrs W. Vicary, E Millar, — . Watson, D. Prince, and E. Nix, with Mr E Cartwright as Secretary, has been appointed to procure the necessary information. Mr Sawyers, the Government Dairy Expert, has been invited to address a meeting in Apiti, and he is expected in the district at an oarlj date. It is proposed to devote the attention of the company to cheese making only. Should the factory be started, which it undoubtedly will be in about a year, it will greatly benefit the settlers in the district, they being chiefly holders of about 100 acre sections. The promoters, chief of whom is Mr Yicary, are determined to leave no stone unturned to make the project a success. Enlargements to the Apiti school are urgently needed as some of the scholars have to be taught in the shelter shed. The present school building is 21 x 21 feet and the sitting accommodation is totally inadequate for the number of children (between 60 and 70) attending the school. At the last meeting of the Education Board it was decided that their carpenter should prepare plans for the enlargement of the school and it is to be hoped there will be as little delay as possible in completing the additions. ! Since the advent of Mr Rankin and I his family to Apiti the neighborhood has been afforded the pleasurable excitement of three weddings within three months, which for one family in a country settlement is not a bad record. Miss Mary Rankin " broke the ice " on October 3rd by being united to Mr Babbage, and Mr G. Rankin, the bride's brother, followed the good example on November 4th, his bride being Miss Lizzie Cnrreen (of Makino). On December stue Miss Sarah Rankin was married to Mr C. S. Potts, one of the earliest and most respected Apiti settlers. Mr G. S. Potts is starting a fellmongers business on his section close to the township.
