Supposed Loss of a Ship.
(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION). Inveucargill, December 10. A quantity of wreckage, consisting of American pine, top-niast of a large ship and the top gallant yard, piece of the , spanker boom and part of the Capstan, , has been washed ashore at Preservation Inlet. The wreckage has evidently not been long in the water. It is feared that a ship has been lost with all hands. Dpnbdin, This Day. Messrs Rattray and Co., agents for the overdue Firth of Forth, fearing the Invercargill telegram regarding wreckage at Preservation Inlet might refer to that vessel, have wired to the Harbor Master at the Bluff, and in reply were advised the wreckage does not correspond with that of the Firth of Forth. Besides, that vessel would not be on the '■ New Zealand coast two months ago. ; This seems to imply the wreck is not a recent one.
