Birmingham Cricket Match and Concert.
■» ■ Ou Thursday last the cricket match between the youug ladies of Birmingham and the junior cricketers came off, aud resulted in a win for the former. Somo of the ladies shaped very well, notably Miss Palmer, who, with a little practice, would play a very good game. It is to be hoped that the result of Thursday's match wall have the effect of the ladies taking more interest by always lendiug their prosenco at the athletic pursuits of the Birmingham young men. Hitherto at cricket matches, etc., they haye always been couspicuous by their absence. A concert, in aid of tho funds of the Junior Cricket Club, was held in the Town Hall in tho evening. The stage was prettily decorated with Sowers and evergreens. The programme commenced with an overture, " The Village Carnival," by Mrs Tompkins (piano), Messrs Fanthorpe (cornet), W. Barlow (clarionet), and Frank Barlow (flute). Mastor Lui<ji Mcßeth received an encore for his singing of " Nobody Like Mother to Me." Mr Burcham supplied the comic element, aud in tho first part sang a comic song, and in tho second gave an amusing sketch of a Penny Reading as conducted in tne Old Country. Mr Moss recited " Kissing Cup's Race " in his usual finished style. Miss Lowes and Mrs Albert Mcßeth next contributed songs, which were followed by a duet by Misses Carter and Laiug, which received an encore. The duets by Messrs Stevens and Barlow were much appreciated, while the items played on the concertina by Mr L. Mitchell wore in great domand. The accompaniments wero played by Mrs Tompkins and Mrs Bayns The concert was brought to a close by Miss Kirk playing a pianoforte solo with great execution and tasto. After the concert the Hall was cleared and dancing kopt up till an early hour in the morning.
