The Feilding Star, Oroua & Kiwitea Counties Gazette. Published Daily. FRIDAY, DEC. 7, 1894. THE BANK OF NEW ZEALAND.
« The news that the Bank of New Zealand has made a call of £3 6s 8d per share on all ordinary shares is rather startling to outsiders who ar© not ' financially interested, but we believe that a large majority of those princically concerned are quite prepared to meet it. Ample time is given, for the call is made payable in three instalments extending over a period of cwelve months. The total amount is £500,000. The Directors in their circular to the shareholders express regret for this necessity, but they believe it to be in their true interests, and conducive to the success of the Bank, besides being in pursuance of cleuse 5 of the Bank of New Zealand Share Guarantee Act, 1894, wbich provides — "It shall be incumbent upon the Directors if the Colonial Treasurer shall in writing require them so to do, and they aro hereby empowered, to call up one third of the 6um of ten pounds per share for which the shareholders aro liable (under section twenty-one of the New Zoaland Bank Act, 1861) within twelve month*) from the date of such requirement." From this it may be gathered that the Directors had very little option in the matter.
