George Van Steen, formerly a resident of Clinton, has been arrested on a charge of maliciously setting fire to tbe premises of which he was lessee Tho directors of the Walton Park Coal Company recommend a dividend of 4 per cent, for tbe year, and the report was adopted. Wanganui, December 6. The Countess of Glasgow left town today. Her Ladyship was delighted with the place which she considers one of the prettiest towns yet seen in the colony. It is probable that satisfactory arrangements will be made for three months' residence here, commencing at about the end of January. The work of the construction of new public baths has commenced. Her cargo of copra was discharged, and tho vessel will probably bo sold.
