Pohangina County— Coal Creek Riding.
A well represented meeting of ratepayers in the Coal Creek Riding of the Pohangina County Council was held at Birmingham on Saturday last. On the motion of Mr Ashworth, Mr W. W. Hedges was voted to the chair. The chairman in opening the meeting stated that owing to the Road Board being abolished and the district formed into a County it was necessary to go through the whole process of raising the loan previously carried again. Mr Bell councillor for the riding had thought it abvisability to have this meeting of the settlers owing to the difference of opinion among them as to the way the money should be spent, He called for discussion on the matter. Mr Bell suggested raising the loan as previous so as to avoid any legal technicality upsetting the loan. * 6 MrGreenhow wished to form two separate rating districts unless the settlers in the south end of the block were willing to compromise with those in the north. After considerable disoussion it was resolved on the motion of Mr Hedges seconded by Mr Molntyre, That the settiers endeavour to raise the loan as pre-A. vious and that a fair proportion be expended on the Main Ridge road north. Mr Mclntyre proposed and Mr Ashworth seconded, That a loan be raised to complete the Branch road. — Carried. Mr Mclntyre wished to take this opportunity of proposing a vote of thanks to Mr Bell for the trouble he had always taken as councillor for the riding. He was sure we had the right man in the right place. This was carried by acclamation. Mr Bell in acknowledging the vote said he was pleased bis efforts were appreciated and he would always endeavour to do bis best for the district. A vote of thanks to the chair brought the meeting to a close.
