Advances to Settlers.
ARRANGEMENTS kor BEGINNING OPERATIONS. Mr Morton Smith, of Duuediu, and Mr McMillan, of Christchurch, who has been engaged in winding up Harper Brothers' estate, have been appointed as temporary clerks. Mr E. Stafford has been selected as the solicitor who is to do the local conveyanciug work required under the Act, and we understand that in Christchurch the work will bo giveu to Messrs Loughrey and Lane. Iv some districts tho solicitors will be salaried officers from the start; in other cases they will be paid according to a fixed scale of fees until permanent arrangements are made. Mr Oarswell, of Dunedin, is to bo one of the superintendent valuers for the South Island. — N.Z. Times.
(PBS PRKRP ASSOCIATION! Auckland, December 1. Messrs W. J. Napier, solicitor, aud W. Duncan, valuer for the Land Tax Department, have been appointed valuers under the Advances to Settlers Act for the Auckland Provincial District. It is understood that the former will be allowed to continue his private practice.
