Manawatu County Council.

The annual meeting of the abovo was held at Sanson on Wednesday. Present — Crs Rausoru, Harninoud, Wilson, Taylor, and Strang. The Clerk presided, and asked for nominations for the office of chairman for the ensuing year. Cr J. G. Wilson, in proposing Cr V. C. Rausom, referred in complimentary terms to the manner in which Mr Ransom had carried out the duties for a number of years past. Ho had given a deal of time aud attention to county mattors, and he would like to see him continue in the chair. Cr Hammond seconded, saying that not only would the appoinment give satisfaction to councillors, but to ratepayers in all parts of the county. The motion was pnt and carried unanimously. Cr Hansom briefly thanked the Council for the honor done him. Messrs Hansom and John Saxon wore elected members of the Paluierston North Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. An ordinary meeting was then held. Leave of absence was granted to Crs Robinson and Masters. Confirming the minutes and reading of correspondence having been disposed of, the following resolutions were passed : — That a transfer of sections, in ratebook, 237 and 288, Waitohi, from M. Kew to A. P. Lasonby, be agreed to. (Strang — Wilson). That the Chairman and Cr Hammond sign and seal the Shannon Ferry lease for one year. (Strang — Taylor). That Mr Corpe be allownd to take water down the eastern side of Tank's line, provided that only artesian water is taken, and that he gets permission from Sluggish River Drainage Board, this permission to continue only during the pleasure of the Council. (Ransom — Taylor). That Mr Corpe be given notice to fill up drain in Medway street, Campbelltown, complained of by Mr Harper. (Ransom — Taylor) . Forty-one tenders were received for various works, and tho following were accepted : - Sandon-Feilding road, mettalling, D. Bourke, £1 2s por chain ; Swainson's line, metalling, Matthews and Parlane, £1 14s lid per chain ; Taikorea line, formation, Holland and Co., 9s s£d por chain ; Taylor's line, formation, Boltcher and Ducker, 16s per chain ; Campbelltown streets, metalling, H. Coley, £2 19s 3d per chain ; McDonnell's line, Ellery Bros., 17s 6d per chain (subject to receiving loan money from Government). That Cr Wilson be appointed to get plans and specifications drawn out for protective works on the Oroua river, and to have power to call for and accept tenders for the work, tbo payment to be made out of special loan raised for this purpose. (Hammond — Taylor). That £8 bo spent on cutting down the hill at Mount Stewart on the Mount Rigg's-Mount Stewart road. (Wilson — Taylor). That a Committee, consisting of Crs Wilson, Hammond, Straug, and the mover, meet on December 12th to pass monthly accounts aud deal with any tenders that may be before the Council. (Ransom — Strang.) That tho half-year's subsidy to Scott's Ferry (£1o) be paid to Mr Daniell, also, That Mr Munro'a account for £6 Is be be passed for paymcut. (Ransom — Taylor). That the County offices bo closed from December 28rd to January 2nd, 1895, for the Christmas holidays. (Ransom — Strang). A special meetiug was held, making bye-laws regulating traffic on County roads — which will be publicly notified and printed. The next'ordiuary meeting will be hold the second Wednesday in January, 1895.
