(Per Press Association.) Napikr, This Day. News is to hand that the vaults of the Hapuka family have been desecrated and the police have been sent to investigate the matter. The natives are in a great state pf excitement aud consternation. Four largo cqgercte slabs, each weighing about 4 cwt, were removeij from the vault and Beveral coffins rudely disturbed, evidently with the idea of obtaining the treasure supposed to be buried with the chiefs, but tho thieves wore disappointed and nothing removed. The last chief buried there was Wataauo Hapuka, four years ago, and the marraudors had to remove tho top coffins before thoy could got at that containing tho body of the other old chief, buried sixteen years ago. Tho affair is a mystpry, but so long a time has elapsed siuce the vault was visited it is feared "Uie culprit will remain undiscovered. Hone Hapuka, tho present chief, says he is determined to have the vault properly cemented over,
