Members of the Chamber of Peputies are urging that the size of the Madagascar expedition should be mortased to 150,000 men in order that a complete pro* tectorate over the island may be enforced. The ai'iuy, he added, would march straight on tho capital, and thero was no prospect of foreign interference. This statement was received with applause. Tho Minister also announced that General Duchesnc would have command. In the debato on the Madagascar question in the Chamber of Deputies, the Government asserted that England recognised France's right to assume a protection over the whole island. It was impossible for tjjp Powers to Intervene, as Franoe was defending her own interests and houour.
