Fire at Palmerston.

(Per Press Association.) Palmkksto.v, This Day. This morning S. Thackor'u bootshop in the Square was gutted by fire. The rear buiUliug aud the ladies' show room were destroyed. The stock was valued at £f 0 and was aaniagecf so much that it is entirely useless for ea.le. Tho adjoining buildings, owned by C. Waldegrave, wero occupied by C. Grubb, confectioner, and Baker and Cooke, solicitors, were damaged by water. The insurances as follows : Thacker's shop, £300 in the Alliance Offico ; stock, £200 iv the Commercial Union, and £250 iv tho Alliance. Grubb's stock and fixings, £300, jn the National. Baker's buildings, £450 iii the New Zealand ; fixings, books, etc., £100 in same office. The fire was confined to Thacker's shop, though the smoke and water penetrated both the adjoining buildings.
