The Wreck of the Wairarapa.
MISS MACQUAID'S HEROISM. (Per Press Association). Wellington, November 10. The Wellington contributions to the Wairarapa Relief Fund now amount to £'578. An address in album form to Mr W. Fergusson, congratulating him upon his own and Mrs Fergusson's providential escape from the Wairarapa wreck, is being signed in the town. The Mayor and Chairman of the Harbor Board headed the list of signatures. Mr Baldwin, whose wife and child were drowned at the wreck of the Waira rapa, returned to Wellington with their bodies by the Mahinapua on Saturday morning. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon. The cortege wan an ob« ject of sad interest as it passed on the way to the grave Chbistchdrch, November 11, It is believed that Professor Kanley, late of Amberley, was one of the ill-fated passengers in the Wairarapa disaster. He came into a considerable sum of money lately, and was coining to make his home again in New Zealand. Dcnsdin,. November 11. It is suggested that in recognition of the heroic conduct of Miss Macquaid, stewardess of the Wairarapa, a testimonial should be forwarded to her parents, and a subscription for that purpose lias been started.
