The Canterbury Jockey Clubs Spring Meeting commenced at liiccarton to-day, i The weather was fine, though a strong , noreaster blew during the greater part of J the day, there was a large attendance. Three Star, Royal Rose, Saracen and Magazine com* prised the leading division when the field had fairly settled into thsir places, and p isaing th<t stand, Alderehot, Saracen and Three Star, were together in front, followed by Rosefeldt, Impulse, Magazine, Skirmisher, Lottie and Au Revoir is tha order named Before tho straight was reached Mahaki had lost his position and Aldershot landed in the straight just in front of Saracen, Rosefeldt and Impulse with Lottie coming fast. At the distance Rosefeldt and Saracen were beaten, lvi* pulse immediately afterwards drew out and stalling off the too late effort on the part of Lottie, won a great race by three* quarters of a length from Lottie with AU dershot a similar distance away, third, Mugnzine fourth. Mahaki fifth, Prime Warden, 6ixth, Skirmisher seventh, Saracen eighth, and Pegasus, Three Stars, and Rangipuhi the last. Time, 3min 30Vsec. Dividends, £18 10a and £28 8s 6d. Riccarton Welter Handicap, of 120 soys., six furlongs —Mount Royal, 1: Sunrise, 2 ; Speculator, 3 Eleven others started. Won comfortably by a length and a half, Time, linin 16secs. Dividends, £4 2s and £2 11s 6d Welcome Stakes, of 250 soys, four furlongs. Caribou, 1; Euroklyndon, 2: Bloodshot, 3 Seven others started. Won by half a length. Time 50£ sec«, Dividends, LIO It's 6d and Ll3 19s fid. Ladies Purse Welter Handicap, of 100 soys., once round and a distance — Chaos, 1 ; War Dance 2 ; Barnardo, 3. Four others started Won in a canter by three length?, Time, 2min«, 64{secs. DivU dends, L 6 13s and L7 7s Gd. Steward's Handicap, of 250 soys, six furlongs. - Golden Fleece, 1 ; Beadonuell 2 ; St Clements 3 Twelve others started. Won easily bjr two lengths, Time luiin. Is|secs. Dividend, L22 2s and L2J 11s.
