MELBOURNE NOTES. | Per Press Association] Melbourne, November 2. Maroon has been scratched for all engagements. Lord Randolph is hardening for the Cup and the Ballarat division are confident about his winning that event. However, Mr Wilson's followers are still sanguine that Carbine's near relative Carnage will give the Cup a shaking. The other horses which the touts fancy will be prominent at the raeetiog are — Port Admiral, Honda, Newman, Lady Trenton, Nightingale, and jEolus. Port Admiral is reckoned to be the best outsider for the Cup, though there are many good judges who expect Mr Mayo to spring a surprise with /Eolns, who was favourite in Sydney for one of the short races in the last A.J.C. races, but was pulled out at the last moment. Mr Scobie's stable maintain thai Dream* land cannot lose the Blue Riband, and the Caulfield contingent are equally demonstrative about Mr Gollan's younger brother of Loyalty and Saracen (Bonnit Scotland.)
