At a meeting of the Bankers' lustituto Mr McMillan, ex-Treasurer, read a paper ou Banking Institutions, iv which he strongly favoured the establishment of a central reserve to answer the pnrposes served b} r the Bauk of England, in Great Britain. At the present time, he alleged, many of the banks were holding large reserves and the carrying out of some such schemes as that suggested would relieve | the stringency. There was a strong favourable feeling among those present in favour of Mr McMillan's scheme.
