Times Mr McGown, Commissioner of Taxes, returned from Sydney by the Hauroto ibis afternoon. Alfred Freeman, formerly manager of a drapery store in Eketahana, aud who attempted to commit suicide by cutting his throat, is not expected to recover. Hannibal, clerk of Messrs Wright, and Co., has been arrested on the charge of embezzling The alleged defalcations amount to £5000.
