THE PACIFIC CABLE. THE COOLGARDIE GOLD FIELDS. SIR GEORGE GREY. THE AMEER'S ILLNESS. [PER PBEBB ASSOCIATION. 1 London, October 21. The mission of Mr Sandford Fleming, of the Canadian-Pacific Railway Company, and Mr W. H. Mercer, of the Colonial office to Hawaii, to negotiate for the landing of the Pacific cable on Necker Island, has, according to Honolulu advices, resulted fruitlessly, the Hawaiian Government being adverse to conceding or leasing the island, owing to a treaty with the United States. Three companies have offered to buy the Londonderry mine for £500,000. Sir George Grey, when the "winter compels it, intends to sail for Egypt or the Cape. He has received a pressing invitation to visit the Cape. The Times' correspondent reports that tbe excitement in India, owing to the reported death of the Ameer, lias abated. Calcutta, Octobsr 21. The Ameer, fearing that he was dying, summoned the chief military commander from Jellalabad — the only man he personally trusted, and a warm friend to the British.
