Steady rain has fallen all day, necessitating the postponement of tho Sanclown Park races. Martin Burke died of his injuries this morning. At Caulfield this morning Straightfire covered a mile and a-half in 2min 40J sec, finishing slovenly. Fortunatus did the same distance comfortably in half a second longer. Lady Trenton was ridden out for a mile and a quarter, which she executed in 2min 15|sec. Paris took 2min lGsec, and Bonnie Scotland and The Possible travorsed a mile splendidly in lmin 48jsec. Bruin is hardening for the Caulfield Cup, 100 to 10 being taken, WANGANUI SPRING MEETING. (Per Press Association. Wanganui, October 18. First Handicap Hack Hurdles, of 30 soys., 1^ miles —Strike 1, Rangipai 2, Lady Clare 3. Also started—Tramore lOst 71b, Lisetta 9st 21b, Tho Dean, Flirt aud Result 9st. Won cleverly by half a length. Tramore fell when holding a good position. Time, 3min 6sec. Dividend, £'6 Bs. Hunters' Hurdles, of 50 soys., about 2 miles and a distance Seddon 1, Awarua 2, Tc Ari 3. Also started —Perjurer. A good race. Time, 4min 30sec. Dividend, i.'4 s First Handicap Hack Race, of 40 soys., 1 mile—lrish Twist 1, Roll Call 2, Buckler 3. Twelve started. Won very easily. Puella in this race broke her leg and had to be shot. Time, lmin 51 2-ssec. Dividend, jL'4 17s. Flying Handicap, of 60 soys., threequarters of a mile —Sylvia Park 1, Rosefeldt 2, Prestige 3. Epilogue, Purepo. Chatterbox, St. Laura and Stranger also started. Stranger had tho best of a rather poor start, but Sylvia Park asserted himself at half tho distance, and made a great race for home with Rosefeldt, winning by half a length. Time, lmin 17 3-ssec. Dividend, £8 Is. This Day. The mare Paradox while doing an exercise gallop on tho course this morning dropped dead from failure of the heart's action. There is good weather and an excellent attendance for the second day's races. Owen Stakes, 1 mile—Johnny Faa, 1; Lebel, 2 ; Pihanga, 3. A slashing race. -Won by a neck. Timo, lmin 45 3-sth sec. Dividend, L 2 Is. Second Hurdles, 1J miles.—Melinite, 1 ; Kapua, 2; Sunbeam, 3. A good race botween tho placed horses. Time, 3min 25sec. Dividend, L 2 3s. Hack Hurdles, 1£ miles.—Raugipai, 1; Tramoro, 2; Lady Clare, 3. Won easily at the finish after a good race. Time 2min 56 2-sths sec. Dividend, L 4.
