♦ - Melbourne, October 9. { William Lannie, returning from Coolgardie to New Zealand, had a sensational experience in Melbourne on Saturday night. A party of roughs knocked him down by a blow on the head with a sling ■hot, robbed and left him. In the morning be was discovered ; he hud sustained a compound fracture of the skull, necessitating trepanning. The patient is progressing favorably, but is not yet out of danger. A triple drowning fatality is reported from Na'rrabri. Mrs Kite, wife of the manager of the Tibbieren station, and two children disappeared, and her body was found in the river with tho elder child clasped in her nruis, but the other child is missing. Charles Jenkins, n recent arrival from New Zealand, was found drowned in the Hunter river at Singleton last week. In a letter to a friend he said no man over 55 had a right to complete with younger men in the labour market and he determined to qnit this life.— Po6t Correspon dent.
