[from ovb own cohbespondknt.7 A public meeting was held in the Beaconsfield school house on Saturday eveniug to see what support could be obtained towards the erection of a town hall. Mr Phyn was voted to the chair and stated that he was sure ho knew of £40 or ±'50 that would be contributed towards the hall. Mr C. Benseman moved that a committee be formed to canvass the district to see what support could be obtained. The motion was carried. After the meeting the settlers commended adversely on the proposal of the local body to expend the sum i-150 in repairing the culvert in Davies' gully, when for 4-50 more a deviation could be made with a grade of less than one in fifteen instead of the present grade of one in seven.
