LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, Ootober 16. The Council met at 2.30, The Hon. McGregor moved a resolution affirming the desirableness, in the interests of impartial and fearless administration of justice, that the tenure of office of District Court Judges and Stiponclary Magistrates should be " during ability and good behaviour," and not as at present— duriug the pleasure of the Executive ; and, also, affirming that the salaries at present paid to District Judges aud Magistrates, especially to the former, I are wholly inadequate. — The motion was carried by 25 to 8. Tho Trustees Act Amendment Bill, Stamp Act Amendment Bill, Water Supply Act Amendment Bill, Abattoirs and Slaughter Houses Bill, Public Works Bill, and Dairy Industry Bill were committed, read a third time, and passed. The Council rose at 5.30. p.m.
