Fire at Makino.

A six-roomed cottage, on the Makino road, owned by Mr F. Berry and occupied by Mr Cornelius, an employee, was destroyed by fire at five o'clock this morning. The fire was first noticed by Mr Cornelius' eldest son, Edgar, a boy of eleven years, who had the presence of mind to break the window and assist five younger children out. A piano and a few small articles were saved, but Mr Cornelius loses the whole of his clothing and furniture. The cause of the fire is unknown. The building was insured in the Phoenix Fire Office for _?70, but MiBerry estimates his loss at .£IOO as several machines used in the butchery business and also a quantity of harness were stored there.
