"Courtship and Marriage."

On Monday evening, the Bth inst., the Rev. Mr Lee, of Palmerston, lectured in tlie Kiwitea Hall on " Courtship and Marriage." The attendance was good, and the lecture was most instructive. The rev. gentleman imparted some capital advice to young men on 'when, how, and whom to court. He should, first, have the means for all necessary comforts. He should not seek the external beauty only, which captivates the eye, but the beauty of mind and character are the higher and more lasting qualities. He should always have some definite object in courtship, and give the lady to clearly understand what he means. Bread was good, and cheese was good, but they were better when eaten together. There were some things desirable and some things absolutely necessary in a wife. The man if plainlooking should not seek too much beauty, as when he sits by her side he will look too ordinary. She should, also, be colloquial, and variety of temperament waß good. She must be clean ; there was a j difference between the dirt of indolence and the dirt of industry. She must be ! thoroughly domesticated— -not spoiling the meals and deeding him on the kisses of dessert. A dirty mother, a dirty daughter. Married life must give and ! take, and married folk should remember the days of their wooing, and promise to experience the bliss told of by Martin Tupper.
