Public Works Estimates.

In the Public Works estimates the following are the votes of the Palmerston electoral* district :— Pahiatua road L 35 ; Oroua Coal Creek road, L 325 more than the liability ; Palmerston Courthouse, 12000; ' Mangoira Coal Creek block, L 1392, of which L7OO is already spent; police station, Palmerston North, L 30 0; Post Office, Palmerston North, Ll5O. The Public Works Statement shows that the gross total ways and means available for public works this year will be £1,147,616 and that the grois total appropriations proposed amount to £940---163, leaving an unappropriated balance of L 207.454. including L 1,000,000 each on the Lands Improvement and Native Lands Purchase Accounts. The appropriations for railways show a decrease on last year's yotes. There is an increase on the vote of additions to open linen, for which L4o,ooois asked, a* against L 18.978 lust year. Amongst other new votes are :—Cooperative works for unemployed, L 5000: improved farm settlements, Jj20,000; advances to co-operative workmen. LSOO. The following are the votes in the Rangitikei Electorate: - Rangitikei bridge, Vinegar Hill (Ll for LI), LISOO, with liability of L 125 0; Vinegar Hill road, L 200; Kimbolton, L 45 0; Hautapu-Som-merville, L 50 0; Pemberton - Wairaki (Pukeninu), L 40 0; Pohangina Valley Forest Reserve, L 32 5; Hautapu No. 2 Block, L 1714.
